About Studio Scotland

Company Directors:

Stewart Menelaws (Managing Director)
Deborah Forrest-Menelaws (Dir and HoP)

A brief history…

It's been over 40 years since Scottish born commercial advertising photographer Stewart Menelaws started "The Studio" later to become incorporated as Studio Scotland Ltd. He was joined by his wife, successful agency owner and Marketing Director, Deborah Forrest and photographer Keith Elman from the USA. In those early days they were located close to Edinburgh city centre where as a team they would soon carve out a name for creative photographic work. Stewart quickly became known for his lighting effects, camera and darkroom trickery, and although commissioned to shoot a diverse range of subjects from fashion to architecture, he specialised in high quality product photography which included many household brand names. His work would regularly be seen on Billboards, Magazines, Coffee Table Books, Brochures, TV Commercials as well as Shop Window Displays, Bus Sides and Food Packaging etc…

Deborah (Head of Production), cut her teeth in front of the camera as a child actor with 20th Century Fox and would go on to work in the media industry. With many years experience in the imaging industry working with Advertising Agencies, Design Groups and Creative Directors, the company turned its full attention to the Film and Video production world and soon gained an excellent reputation. Studio Scotland has received a number of regional and national awards and commendation for its business practices with one of its documentary productions awarded ‘Best Educational Documentary’ by the CMA. In 2025 the company scaled back on its production activities and only undertakes a small number of projects. As one client states:

"My relationship with Studio Scotland came about by chance when searching desperately for a 'can do - will do' creative organisation that could grow, develop and work closely with me, often pushing back the boundaries to discover new, exciting and effective creative marketing ideas. The driving force behind every new project was and is Stewart Menelaws, a quiet and sincere individual, who pushes himself to the limits to find the solution. The consistent dedication, the total reliability and the determination to produce the best possible work has to be their mission.

Often, when all others had gone home for the day, or had given up trying, or had produced typically “ run of the mill” work, the team at Studio Scotland kept going, often through the night to ensure that deadlines were achieved and the end result exceeded expectations. Despite their achievements, they have never sat on their laurels. They constantly educate themselves as to new techniques, keeping abreast of technology. Taking personal ownership and a deep sense of pride will ensure that Studio Scotland will always deliver."
-Steven Allenby (MD PBS (NW) Ltd, former Director Morrison Homes & Rowland Homes)
